About the Center
Campbell Park Recreation Center has a rich history of youth activities in St. Petersburg. Along with the E.H. McLin Pool, Oliver Baseball Field, Richard "Dick" Turner Baseball Field, basketball courts and playground, the recreation center is the perfect place to grow up and stay active in the community. If you are looking for a great place to host an event or a family gathering, such as a baby shower, family picnic, reunion or wedding, our banquet room with a kitchen or our outdoor picnic shelters are a good place to start. The center also feature artwork that depicts teaching our youth. You may recognize some of our community leaders in the sculptured paintings on the walls of the center and pool.
The History of the Center
Campbell Park Recreation Center is named after Thomas Clinch Campbell. Land was donated to the City of St. Petersburg in the roaring '20s to use as a park for African American people, who at that time were segregated to the south side of town. Mr. Campbell was a well-to-do businessman from Knoxville, Pennsylvania, where he owned a feed mill, building supply firm and was a station agent for the New York Central Railroad.
