A unique nature experience located in the heart of St. Petersburg. The preserve brings an abundance of nature activities for everyone. It’s home to the Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center that offers camps, rental space and programs. There are several fascinating habitats to experience and learn about while walking the trails.


If you would like to get involved consider joining Friends of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, a nonprofit organization that supports the preserve through volunteer services and educational opportunities.

Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center

The preserve's environmental education center offers interactive exhibits, educational programming, a gift shop, rental opportunities and more.

Terry Tomalin Campground

The preserve has recently undergone improvements to enhances visitors' experiences, including the new Terry Tomalin Campground, St. Pete's first public primitive family campground; Hammock Hall, a multipurpose building to provde rental space and programming opportunites; and a trail expansion. The 12-site campground's name honors the late Terry Tomalin, a former Tampa Bay Times outdoors writer who supported the preserve through several service projects.

Pinellas Pioneer Settlement

The Pioneer Settlement is operated by the St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation Department.

Located in Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, the Settlement is a living history museum where visitors can experience the skills, crafts and social customs of late 19th century life in west central Florida.
