Shining a Light on Seniors

In 2024, the City of St. Petersburg will be commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Senior Hall of Fame, a cherished tradition in the community. The Senior Hall of Fame awards ceremony began in 1983 as a way to honor our community’s senior volunteers who have made noteworthy contributions toward improving the lives of the residents of St. Petersburg. Every year, organizations and individuals nominate exceptional candidates from the pool of volunteers within their organizations. Without these charitable volunteers, many nonprofit organizations could not survive.

The Senior Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony is the City of St. Petersburg’s premier recognition event highlighting senior volunteers who dedicate their time, talent, and resources to others as they serve the community. Since its inception, the Senior Hall of Fame has inducted over 300 volunteers who have made a difference in the missions of a wide variety of organizations. The inductees have participated in a history of service in education, music, agriculture, wellness, animal rescue, church, government, nonprofits and many more areas.

Nominees embody positive aging and serve as role models, indicative of leading meaningful, dynamic lives. The inductees and honorable mention nominees have dedicated not only their time but their talents as leaders and organizers to keep important businesses and entities successful. Their inspiring stories showcase their commitment to causes, organizations, and the community at large. Their stories will motivate you to continue the spirit of volunteerism and to give back to society.

Nominate a Senior Volunteer

We all have that one person in our lives who goes above and beyond for others without expecting anything in return. Consider recognizing their tireless efforts by nominating them for the St. Petersburg Senior Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor is an excellent way to spotlight the contributions of exceptional volunteers in our community.

To qualify for this award, nominees must initially meet the following criteria:

  • • Be 62 years of age or older.
  • • Be a year-round or seasonal resident of Pinellas County.
  • • Perform outstanding community service benefiting residents of St. Petersburg.

Each nominee receives acknowledgment and a certificate during the ceremony. Individuals who have been selected for induction receive an award and are invited to an additional ceremony to meet the mayor and be honored by the members of City Council. Inductees are also awarded a key to the city, the highest honor the City bestows, in recognition of their outstanding contributions and service.
